This half – day tour will take you on an exploration to Attica’s ancient history and vineyards!
After you enjoy your breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel at about 9:30 am and we will drive towards Vavrona (approx. 45’-50’), in the eastern coast of Attica. There, we will visit the less – known, yet significant archaeological site of Vravrona, set in an idyllic landscape, surrounded by lush green fields, olive trees and vineyards, near the Aegean coastline. Inhabited since the Neolithic area, the site is dedicated to Artemis, the goddess of vegetation and hunting, but also as the protector of women in child-birth and of the infants. The most notable monuments to visit on site are the Temple of Artemis, built in late 6th century BC, the Π-shaped Doric stoa, the stone bridge over Erasinos river and the archaeological museum which exhibits findings from throughout the region of Mesogaia dating from the prehistoric (early Copper) period to the Roman era.
Afterwards, we will head to a prestigious Attica winery, the first in Greece especially designed and built according to innovative bioclimatic standards. There, depending on the season and the weather, we will have the chance to walk through the vineyards and take a look at the different grape varieties cultivated. Then, we will take a tour in the winery, where you will find out more about the wine making process, followed by tastings of 3 – 5 different signature wines, accompanied by bread rusks, Greek olives and gruyere cheese. You can also shop your preferred wines directly from the winery.
You can optionally have lunch in a nearby coastal tavern in Porto Rafti or return back to your hotel in Athens.
